Lucknow, Sep 15: In a story that has stunned residents and stirred conversation across Amethi, a man arranged for his wife's marriage to her lover and personally completed all traditional rituals before bidding her farewell.
The incident unfolded on Sunday evening at the Aditya Birla Temple, located in the industrial area of Amethi. Shiv Shankar, a resident of Dina Ka Purwa in Sindurwa village (under Kamrauli police station limits), had married Uma, daughter of Samai Prajapati from Raniganj, on March 2 this year.
However, post-marriage, Uma reportedly continued her romantic relationship with her former lover, Vishal. According to both police and family sources, she remained in regular contact with Vishal through calls and secret meetings.

Shiv Shankar initially attempted to salvage the marriage by asking Uma to sever ties with Vishal and focus on her new life. But Uma refused to end the relationship, leading to repeated arguments between the couple. Matters escalated when, on May 29, Uma left for her parental home and stayed there for several months. Even after returning in August, her behavior reportedly remained unchanged.
The final breaking point came when Shiv Shankar caught her speaking with Vishal late one night. The confrontation turned into a serious dispute, drawing police intervention. Both parties were booked under preventive sections relating to breach of peace.
Eventually, the couple reached a mutual decision to part ways. In an unprecedented move, Shiv Shankar agreed to facilitate Uma’s formal marriage to Vishal.
The ceremony was held at the Aditya Birla Temple in the presence of relatives, villagers, and community members. All customary Hindu wedding rituals were followed, including the exchange of garlands and the application of sindoor (vermilion).
In a display of composure and closure, Shiv Shankar personally performed the 'bidaai' (farewell) ritual, sending Uma off with her new husband, Vishal.
The act has triggered a flurry of reactions across the region—some praising Shiv Shankar’s maturity and dignity in handling a painful situation, while others are simply stunned by the unconventional resolution.
Local authorities confirmed the mutual nature of the arrangement and stated that no further legal action is expected from either party.
