New Delhi, Sep 15: Filmmaker Karan Johar has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights, days after actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan secured similar relief.
Earlier, the court directed several platforms to stop using the Bachchans’ names, images and signatures for commercial gain. Observing that unauthorised use of such attributes dilutes an individual’s goodwill, Justice Tejas Karia noted, “These attributes are linked to the plaintiff’s professional work and associations in the course of his career.”
In its interim order, the court prohibited the defendants from producing or selling merchandise such as T-shirts, mugs, posters, or digital content that exploit a celebrity’s identity, extending the restriction to AI-generated content, deepfakes and face morphing.
Johar, who is currently distributing Mirai starring Teja Sajja and directed by Karthik Gattamneni, has now sought similar protection to safeguard his name, image and professional reputation.
