Anushka Shetty steps away from social media after underwhelming box office response to ‘Ghaati’

Mumbai, Sep 14: Actress Anushka Shetty has announced a temporary break from social media, sharing a heartfelt handwritten note with fans on Friday via X (formerly Twitter). The decision comes shortly after her latest film Ghaati opened to a lukewarm response at the Indian box office.

In the note, Anushka reflected on the need to disconnect from the digital world and refocus on life and work beyond the screen. “Trading blue light to candle light... Will be stepping away from social media for a bit, just to reconnect to the world and work beyond the scrolling, to where we all actually started,” she wrote, signing off with, “See you all soon with more stories and more love… always forever… Smile always. Love, Anushka Shetty.”

Ghaati, which released on September 5, managed to collect just Rs 6.64 crore across India in its first week, according to Sacnilk. The film, directed and written by Krish Jagarlamudi, stars Anushka in the lead role alongside Vikram Prabhu. Despite high expectations, the film failed to generate significant momentum at the box office.

Known for her private nature and selective film appearances, Anushka’s decision to log off has resonated with many of her fans, who’ve expressed support and understanding. As the actress retreats from the spotlight to reset and refocus, her followers eagerly await her next chapter — both on screen and off.
