Malda, Sep 14: Mystery surrounds the death of a tribal female medical student of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, whose body was found in Malda on Friday while she was reportedly with her fiancé, a junior doctor at Malda Medical College and Hospital.
Originally from Balurghat in South Dinajpur district, the victim’s parents alleged on Saturday that her death was unnatural and accused her fiancé of foul play. Her mother claimed the junior doctor wanted to avoid marriage despite their relationship and had earlier forced her to undergo an abortion.

Police said a case of unnatural death has been registered at English Bazar Police Station, with initial findings suggesting a possible drug overdose. “The real reason will be clear only after detailed post-mortem and viscera reports,” a Malda District Police officer stated.
The fiancé has been missing since the incident, and investigators are trying to trace him. The victim’s mother recounted that the couple had recently visited Puri, Odisha, where they married at a temple, and that her daughter had recently become pregnant.
“When we reached Malda, we saw our daughter in her last stage… she had been murdered, and her fiancé probably fed her something poisonous,” the grieving mother alleged, demanding strict punishment for the accused.
