New York, Sep 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not address the General Debate at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) later this month, as per a revised list of speakers released on Friday.

The high-level debate will run from September 23 to 29, with Brazil opening the session followed by the United States. President Donald Trump will deliver his first UNGA address of his second term on September 23.

According to the updated schedule, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India and speak at the session on September 27. Earlier, PM Modi was listed to address the assembly on September 26.

World leaders including the heads of government of Israel, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are expected to deliver their addresses on September 26.

The 80th session will open on September 9 under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.” It comes against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and the Ukraine conflict.

This year’s high-level week will also feature a commemorative meeting on the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, a special session on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration for gender equality, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ Climate Summit on September 24, where leaders will present new national climate action plans.
