NCW seeks urgent reports on Rohini double murder, assault of Khasi woman in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 1: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of two disturbing incidents reported in the capital — the double murder of a mother and daughter in Rohini, and the suspicious hospitalization of a young Khasi woman from Shillong.

Double Murder in Rohini: NCW Demands Police Report

In the first case, the NCW on Monday requested a detailed report from Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha within three weeks regarding the murder of 63-year-old Kusum Sinha and her 34-year-old daughter Priya Sehgal, allegedly by Priya’s husband, Yogesh Sehgal, on August 30 in Rohini Sector 17.

Yogesh, now in police custody, is accused of killing the two women following a dispute related to gifts exchanged during his son's birthday celebrations.

Police officials confirmed that Yogesh has been arrested and blood-stained clothes and a pair of scissors, believed to be the murder weapon, were recovered from the scene.

In a letter to the Commissioner, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has stressed the need for a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation, directing police to book the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The Commission has also sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) within three days, according to an official statement posted on NCW’s social media.

Khasi Woman’s Hospitalisation Raises Alarm

In a separate case, the NCW has also initiated action on reports of a young Khasi woman from Shillong admitted to AIIMS Delhi with grievous injuries under mysterious circumstances.

According to media reports published on August 30, the woman was brought to the hospital by a man from Noida, who claimed she was injured in a fall. However, suspicious inconsistencies have raised concerns about possible assault or foul play.

Chairperson Rahatkar has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner demanding:

• A swift and fair investigation
• Immediate arrest of any accused if allegations are verified
• Free medical and psychological support for the victim

The Commission has again asked for an Action Taken Report within three days.

Additionally, NCW Member Delina Khongdup is scheduled to visit AIIMS to meet the victim in person and assess her condition and care.

The NCW’s rapid intervention in both cases reflects its intent to ensure justice for women facing extreme violence and mistreatment. The Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to monitor both investigations closely and ensure accountability from law enforcement.
