Top infiltration aide Bagu Khan, known as ‘human GPS’, killed in Gurez encounter

Jammu, Aug 30: In a major blow to cross-border infiltration networks, security forces on Saturday killed Bagu Khan—infamously known as the “human GPS” among terror ranks—in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir. He was shot dead along with another terrorist during an attempted infiltration in the Nowshera Naar area.

Bagu Khan, also called Samandar Chacha, had been based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) since 1995 and was considered one of the most seasoned facilitators of infiltration along the Line of Control. Known for his unmatched knowledge of the region’s treacherous terrain, Khan was instrumental in enabling over 100 infiltration attempts—many of which succeeded—through secret routes in the Gurez sector.

Though officially linked to the Hizbul Mujahideen, Khan had long assisted multiple terror outfits with logistics and operational guidance. His familiarity with the geography made him an indispensable asset for cross-border terror networks operating in northern Kashmir.

Security officials confirmed that his death marks a significant disruption to the infiltration ecosystem in the region. “This is a tactical victory,” one officer said, “as he was key to planning and facilitating infiltration across multiple sectors.”

The latest encounter followed closely on the heels of another operation in the same sector, where two heavily armed infiltrators were killed on Thursday by Indian Army troops near Naushera Naar under Operation Naushera Nar IV.

With Bagu Khan’s death, the security grid believes a critical logistical link for terror operations in the Gurez region has finally been severed.
