Param Sundari opens to lukewarm response at box office

New Delhi, Aug 30: Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, hit theatres on Friday amid high expectations. The romantic comedy, showcasing a cross-cultural love story, had generated considerable buzz ahead of release, especially for the fresh pairing of its lead actors.

Despite the anticipation, the film’s opening day collections fell short. Early estimates by Sacnilk put the earnings at Rs 7.25 cr. With no other major releases on Friday, the film enjoyed a solo run at cinemas.

The overall occupancy on the first day was 12.92 per cent. Morning shows recorded 8.19 per cent, rising to 11.45 per cent in the afternoon. Evening shows drew 12.27 per cent, while night shows saw the highest turnout at 19.77 per cent.

The film revolves around a romance between a Delhi-based character and another from Kerala. Alongside the lead pair, Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya play significant roles. The soundtrack, particularly the song Pardesiya, has also been widely appreciated.

Sidharth Malhotra’s box office track record

Sidharth Malhotra has witnessed mixed results with recent films. Yodha earned Rs 53.5 crore against a Rs 55 crore budget, while Thank God made Rs 48.99 crore on a Rs 70 crore budget. Marjaavan grossed Rs 62 crore on a Rs 50 crore budget. Films like Aiyaary and Ittefaq also underperformed, earning Rs 30.59 crore and Rs 51.47 crore respectively.

Janhvi Kapoor’s box office journey

Janhvi Kapoor’s films have had varied success. Ulajh collected Rs 11.25 crore on a Rs 35 crore budget, and Mr and Mrs Mahi grossed Rs 51.25 crore against Rs 40 crore. Mili and Roohi failed to make a mark, earning Rs 3.82 crore and Rs 28.7 crore respectively. However, Devara emerged as a commercial success, raking in over Rs 421 crore worldwide on a budget of nearly Rs 300 crore.
