Indore, Aug 30: In a story reminiscent of the 2007 Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor film Jab We Met, a young Indore woman, Shraddha Tiwari, ran away from home to marry her lover but ended up tying the knot with another man she met along the way.
On August 23, Shraddha, a resident of the MIG police station area, left home to marry her boyfriend, Sarthak. However, Sarthak failed to show up at the railway station and later informed her over the phone that he no longer wished to marry her. Heartbroken and aimless, Shraddha boarded a train without a destination and disembarked hours later at Ratlam, a town famously featured in Jab We Met.

At Ratlam station, she met Karandeep, an electrician affiliated with her college. Despite Karandeep advising her to return home, Shraddha insisted she could not go back unmarried. Moved by her resolve, Karandeep proposed, and Shraddha accepted. The couple then travelled to Maheshwar-Mandleshwar and got married before heading to Mandsaur.
Meanwhile, Shraddha’s father, Anil Tiwari, launched a frantic search, offering a Rs 51,000 reward for information and even hanging his daughter’s photograph upside down outside their home to attract attention. On Thursday, Shraddha contacted her father from Mandsaur, assuring him of her safety. He arranged for her return home after the couple faced difficulties finding hotel accommodation.
Shraddha and Karandeep later visited the MIG police station, where she recorded her statement. Indore’s Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia confirmed that both are being questioned by authorities.
Anil Tiwari expressed relief at his daughter’s safety and said the family will keep the couple apart for ten days. He added that if Shraddha continues to insist on living with Karandeep after this period, the family will accept the marriage.
