Puttur: Minor girl sexually assaulted; accused remanded to judicial custody till Sep 9

Mangaluru, Aug 28: A case has been registered at the Dakshina Kannada Women’s Police Station after a minor girl alleged that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by a man near a hilly railway track area in Puttur.

According to the complaint, the victim had been living in a rented house in Puttur town with her mother and younger sister for the past two months. Since March 2025, she had been in contact with the accused over phone, using her mother’s mobile. The accused allegedly lured her to a secluded area near the railway track, where he forced himself on her. The victim further stated that the accused continued to call her to the same spot and subjected her to repeated assaults.

Based on her statement, police registered a case under sections 64(2)(M) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with sections 5(L) and 6 of the POCSO Act, among other provisions.

The accused has been arrested and produced before court, which has remanded him to judicial custody till September 9, 2025. Investigation is underway.
