Indore, Aug 22: A shocking case has emerged from Indore where a 45-day-old infant was killed by his own mother, who slit his throat inside their home. Police suspect depression drove the woman to commit the crime.

According to officials, the accused Neha, wife of Sunny Solanki, killed her infant son Priyansh on Thursday at a Pardhi settlement in the Dwarkapuri area. Additional DCP Dishesh Agarwal said, “Preliminary investigation suggests the mother might be suffering from depression. She has confessed to the crime and has been booked under Section 103 of BNS. Further investigations are underway.”

Relatives told police that Neha’s mental condition was unstable and that she had previously tried to strangle the baby. “We are examining the mother’s mental health condition,” Agarwal added.

The incident came to light when Neha rushed outside to call her sister-in-law, who was washing clothes. Crying out that something had happened to the baby, she brought her inside, where the woman discovered Priyansh lying in a pool of blood with a deep neck wound.

Police recovered the murder weapon from the spot. Bloodstains were also found on Neha’s hands, leading to her immediate interrogation, during which she confessed.

“The incident has shocked the locality. Neighbours and relatives are in disbelief that a mother could kill her newborn in such a gruesome manner,” said Dwarkapuri police station in-charge Sushil Patel.
