Telangana, Aug 22: In a tragic incident, a Class 10 student addicted to the online game PUBG ended his life after his parents confiscated his mobile phone in Nirmal district on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Beti Rishendra. Officials said the boy was so hooked to the game that he played for over 10 hours a day and even stopped attending school, insisting that classes interfered with his gaming schedule.

His worried parents had sought medical help, consulting a psychiatrist and a neurosurgeon. However, Rishendra allegedly remained defiant and even threatened the doctor during counseling.

With no improvement, the parents decided to take away his phone three days ago. Unable to cope without playing, Rishendra allegedly hanged himself.

The shocking incident has once again raised concerns over the growing menace of online gaming addiction among youth.

Earlier this year, three teenagers in Bihar’s West Champaran district were killed after being hit by a train while playing PUBG on the tracks with earphones plugged in. In another disturbing case, a video surfaced of a cab driver in Hyderabad recklessly playing PUBG while driving, endangering passengers.
