Udupi District RGPRS celebrates Rajiv Gandhi, Devaraj Urs birth anniversaries

Udupi, Aug 20: The Udupi District Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Organization celebrated the birth anniversaries of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and former chief minister Devaraj Urs at the Udupi district Congress Office on August 20.

The program began with the floral tributes offered to the portraits of the leaders.

Ten workers from the Vandse SLRM unit, engaged in wet and dry waste management, were felicitated on the occasion.

On this occasion state co-convener Roshni Oliver announced the institution of the “Rajiv Gandhi PRS Award”, which will be conferred annually on individuals engaged in booth-level party organization and social service. Social worker and Congress leader Hariprasad Rai assured his support for this award.

District president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor lauded the organization’s initiatives, while Chaitra, supervisor of the SLRM unit, presented a brief report on its activities. Speaking on the occasion, district general secretary Amrutha Poojary recalled their contributions and achievements.

Udyavara Nagesh Kumar addressed the issue of vote theft during his speech.

District convener Anand Poojary Koderi welcomed the gathering, district secretary Surya Salian read the felicitation note, Udupi block convener Suresh Shetty proposed a vote of thanks, and Kota Block convener Roshan Barretto compered the event.

The program was attended by senior Congress leaders, office-bearers, and members, including M A Gafoor, Veronica Cornelio, Dinesh Putran, Narasimha Murthy, Bhujanga Shetty, Prakhyath Shetty, Mahabala Kundar, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Shanti Pereira, Keerthi Shetty, and others.
