Ferozepur, Aug 19: In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old schoolboy lost his life after accidentally shooting himself with a licensed pistol while playing at his home in Punjab’s Ferozepur town.

Police said the boy had returned from school and was taking clothes from a cupboard when he reportedly started fiddling with a revolver kept inside. In a sudden misfire, the bullet struck him on the head, leaving him critically injured.

Hearing the gunshot, family members rushed to his room and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital and later referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, where he was placed on a ventilator. Despite efforts, the boy succumbed to his injuries.

Police reached the residence, took the body into custody, and recorded statements of the family. Officials said a probe is underway into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.

The incident has created shock in the locality.
