Guwahati, Aug 19: A 14-year-old speech and hearing-impaired girl was allegedly gang-raped inside an autorickshaw in Sribhumi’s Ratabari area on August 16. Police on Monday confirmed the arrest of four persons, including a minor.
The accused have been identified as Islam Uddin, Monir Uddin, Dilawar Hussain, and one juvenile. According to police, the survivor and her younger brother were on their way to their uncle’s house for Janmashtami celebrations when the autorickshaw stopped. One of the men shoved the boy to the ground, while the girl was forcibly taken inside and assaulted.

The minor was later found lying unconscious by the roadside after nearly three hours. She was admitted to hospital for treatment.
“The survivor, a 14-year-old girl with disability, was assaulted inside an autorickshaw. Four persons have been booked under the POCSO Act,” said Sribhumi SSP Partha Pratim Das.
Three accused were produced before court and remanded to three days’ police custody, while the juvenile was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and shifted to a shelter home.
