Chennai, Aug 18: Director Praveen Kandregula’s much-anticipated women-centric drama Paradha, featuring Anupama Parameswaran in the lead, has officially been granted a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film is now locked for a worldwide theatrical release on August 22.

The production house, Anand Media, announced the censor clearance through Instagram, writing, “Censor done with U/A. Get ready for a heartwarming journey with Paradha. Releasing in cinemas worldwide AUGUST 22nd!”

Paradha has drawn considerable attention thanks to Anupama Parameswaran’s emotional attachment to the project. Sharing the trailer on her social media, the actress revealed how personal the film is to her:

“Paradha has been a dream in the making. A concept so close to my heart, and one I’ve poured my soul into. I can’t wait for the world to experience this journey with me, and I truly hope it touches you the way it touched me.”

Set against the backdrop of a deeply traditional village, Paradha tells the story of Subbu, a young woman forced to live under oppressive customs — including the symbolic act of covering her face with a “paradha” (veil). When Subbu mysteriously disappears, the village is quick to scapegoat her, believing her actions have brought divine wrath upon them. In her darkest hour, help arrives in the form of two urban women, leading to a powerful narrative about solidarity, resilience, and breaking free from regressive norms.

Produced by Vijay Donkada, Sreenivasulu PV, and Sridhar Makkuva, and supported by Raj and DK (creators of The Family Man), Paradha stars a strong ensemble cast including Darshana Rajendran, Sangeetha, and Rag Mayur in key roles.

The technical crew includes Mridul Sujit Sen handling cinematography, Dharmendra Kakarala as editor, and music composed by Gopi Sundar.

Paradha is expected to deliver a poignant and socially relevant story, highlighting the transformative power of female friendship and the fight against systemic oppression — a timely and powerful message wrapped in gripping storytelling.
