New Delhi, Aug 17: Notorious gangster Salman Tyagi, facing multiple cases of murder and extortion, was found dead inside his cell at Mandoli Jail on Saturday, officials confirmed.
Tyagi, lodged in Jail No. 15, was discovered hanging from a bedsheet during a routine inspection. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police suspect suicide, though a detailed probe has been ordered.

“A thorough inquiry has been initiated to establish how the incident took place and what might have driven him to take this step,” a senior officer said. CCTV footage and prison security protocols are under review, officials added.
Once a member of the Neeraj Bawana gang, Tyagi later tried to carve out his own syndicate and, in recent years, aligned himself with the Lawrence Bishnoi network. Even from behind bars, he allegedly orchestrated extortion rackets, including a Rs 50 lakh demand from Delhi businessmen last year.
Tyagi was convicted under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and had a long criminal record marked by organised violence and extortion.
Beyond his underworld operations, he cultivated a flamboyant image on social media, drawing inspiration from Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s look in Tere Naam. He frequently shared photos and videos on Instagram and YouTube, and even after his arrest, instructed aides to film his court appearances to keep his online persona alive.
Officials said investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
