Chicago, Aug 15: A 42-year-old man was shot and killed while livestreaming on Facebook in Chicago’s South Austin neighbourhood on Friday.

Police identified the victim as Kevin Watson, who was broadcasting live from the 5000 block of West Madison Street when gunfire erupted. Video seen by millions online showed Watson stepping out of a car before shots were heard.

According to Chicago police, Watson was seated in a vehicle when a white car approached. A masked passenger leaned out of the window and opened fire, striking him in the chest. The suspect vehicle then reversed and sped toward the Eisenhower Expressway.

Witnesses and surveillance footage confirmed the attack. Watson was rushed to Mt Sinai Hospital but was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

This is the second fatal shooting on the same block this week – a 26-year-old man was killed in a suspected rifle attack on Tuesday.
