New Delhi, Aug 13: On the evening of August 14, President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation ahead of India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations. The speech will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. across all Akashvani networks and Doordarshan channels, starting with Hindi followed by the English version. Regional language broadcasts will follow on Doordarshan’s regional channels and Akashvani at 9:30 pm.
The following morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his traditional Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, marking the anniversary of India’s freedom from British rule in 1947. The day is celebrated nationwide with flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs, and tributes to freedom fighters.

Unlike previous years, no official theme has been announced for this year’s celebrations, which typically focus on patriotism, unity, and progress.
Leading up to August 15, key locations across Delhi will host live performances by Armed Forces bands, Central Armed Police Forces bands, Railway Protection Force bands, and the National Cadet Corps, enhancing the festive spirit with music and precision drills.
Security has been heightened across the capital, with traffic restrictions imposed around important areas such as India Gate, Mandi House, and Mathura Road. Commuters without parking permits are advised to avoid these zones.
The Delhi Metro will begin early services from 4 a.m. on all lines to accommodate attendees of the Red Fort event, with trains running every 30 minutes until 6 a.m., after which normal service will resume.
