Bantwal, Aug 12: While it is rare to hold a daiva nema during the month of Aati, the Peruvayi Guttu in Bantwal taluk observes the tradition every year.

As in previous years, the nema of daivas Panjurli and Dhoomavathi was held on Sunday, August 11.

Aati is the fourth month in the Tulu calendar and is considered in Tulu Nadu as inauspicious for auspicious occasions. Locals believe the month brings various infectious diseases, and rituals like “Aati Kalenja” are performed to ward them off.

Although daiva nema celebrations in Aati month are uncommon, the Peruvayi Guttu continues this distinctive custom, drawing large numbers of devotees. This year’s event saw enthusiastic participation from devotees.
