Puducherry, Aug 11: A late-night birthday party at a popular restobar in Puducherry turned tragic in the early hours of Sunday when a service captain allegedly stabbed two guests during a brawl, leaving one dead and another injured.

The incident took place at OMG Restobar, where Shajan, a university student from Chennai, had organised his birthday celebration with around ten friends. Police said the gathering took a violent turn after a quarrel broke out between the students and the staff.

Bouncers reportedly escorted the group out, but the argument escalated in front of other tourists. In the midst of the confrontation, the service captain allegedly fetched a kitchen knife and attacked two students. Both were rushed to hospital, where 23-year-old Moshiq from Sivaganga district, a student of SRM University near Chennai, succumbed to his injuries. The other student, Shajin, is under treatment and is said to be out of danger.

DIG Sathiya Sundaram said the service captain, pub owner, and several others have been arrested. “We will review all digital evidence and book everyone involved,” he stated. Police are examining CCTV and mobile phone footage to reconstruct the sequence of events.
