Bone & Joint Week 2025: K S Hegde Hospital extends 360° care to elderly

Mangaluru, Aug 9: Department of orthopaedics, K S Hegde Medical Academy, a constituent of Nitte (Deemed to be University), observed and celebrated ‘Bone & Joint Week 2025’ on August 9.

In line with the prestigious Indian Orthopaedic Association and under the aegis of the Karnataka Orthopaedic Association and Canara Orthopaedic Society, this year’s theme was ‘Old is Gold – 360° Care for the Elderly’. Under the dynamic leadership of Prof Dr Vikram Shetty, head of the department of orthopaedics, a free health camp was organised for over 80 elderly residents at Abhaya Ashraya – Home for the Elderly and Destitute, Assaigoli.

The camp featured osteoporosis screening by Dr Alden D’Souza. Dr Shreyas Shetty briefed the patients about prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. All participants underwent bone mineral density testing using a portable machine, and free treatment was provided to those in need, reaffirming the department’s commitment to community health and elderly care.
