Ganjam, Aug 8: In a shocking incident from Odisha’s Ganjam district, a 30-year-old man and his two lovers have been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to pass it off as a suicide.

The accused, identified as Santosh Naik, a daily wage worker, along with Anita Naik (26) and Sruti Parida (21), were arrested by Bellaguntha police for the murder of Santosh’s wife, Puja Naik (28), in Nuagaon village on Monday.

Santosh, married to Puja for over 12 years and father to four children, allegedly plotted the murder with his two lovers. The crime came to light after Puja’s mother, Shanti Naik from Buguda, filed a complaint at Bellaguntha police station the same day.

According to the complaint, Shanti rushed to her daughter’s house after Santosh informed her that Puja had died by suicide. However, he reportedly barred her from entering the house. Shanti said she saw Puja’s body lying on the ground wrapped in a cloth, raising suspicions.

She alleged that Puja was often subjected to physical and mental torture by her husband and his two lovers due to his illicit relationships, and expressed doubts that her daughter had actually taken her own life.

“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS based on the complaint. Prima facie evidence suggests murder. All three accused have been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing,” said Rebati Sabar, Inspector in Charge, Bellaguntha police station.
