Trump’s name in Bihar address scam sparks cyber crackdown

Patna, Aug 5: In a bizarre incident that has exposed cracks in Bihar’s digital documentation system, an application for a residence certificate was filed in the name of none other than Donald Trump, the former President of the United States.

The fake application emerged from the Mohiuddinnagar zone in Samastipur district, where an unidentified individual uploaded Trump’s photo along with false details, claiming he lived in Village Hasanpur, Ward No. 13, Post Bakarpur.

Filed online on July 29, 2025, and assigned Application No. BRCCO/2025/17989735, the request was flagged during verification. Officials noticed clear fabrications involving the photo, Aadhaar number, barcode, and address, prompting immediate rejection by the Circle Officer (CO).

“This is not a prank—it’s a serious cyber offence,” the CO said, confirming that a complaint has been lodged with the local cybercrime police. Authorities are now tracing the IP address and login credentials used to submit the application.

Officials believe the submission was intentionally made to mock the administration.

This isn’t an isolated case. In recent weeks, other bizarre applications have surfaced across Bihar under names like ‘Dog Babu’, ‘Nitish Kumari’, and even ‘Sonalika Tractor’, drawing ridicule and raising concerns about the credibility of the state’s online certificate system.

The state’s digital governance has come under scrutiny, especially as elections near. Authorities are now pushing for technical audits, tighter KYC norms, and improved cyber-vetting systems to safeguard against such fraud.

The misuse of the system has put a spotlight on vulnerabilities in Bihar’s e-governance model, demanding swift reforms and stronger cyber safeguards to restore public trust.
