Kanpur, Aug 5: A group of youths attempted to dodge a food bill at a local eatery by placing a bone into a plate of vegetable biryani, falsely claiming contamination — but their plan was foiled after CCTV footage revealed the truth.
The incident occurred on the night of July 31 at Biryani Bay restaurant, located at Shastri Chowk under the Cantonment Police Station limits.

According to restaurant owner Ravikar Singh, a group of 8 to 10 young men had placed orders for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian biryani. Shortly after being served, one of them alleged that a bone was found in his veg biryani, sparking an uproar.
The restaurant staff promptly called the police. Officers arrived and reviewed CCTV footage, which exposed one of the diners discreetly handing a bone to another, who then dropped it into the vegetarian dish.
"There is no possibility of such contamination. In our kitchen, vegetarian and non-vegetarian items are cooked separately," Singh affirmed.
He alleged the ploy was a deliberate attempt to avoid paying a bill estimated to be around Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000. Despite police intervention, no formal FIR has been registered as the restaurant has not filed an official complaint.
Cantonment Circle Officer Yogendra Singh said, “Legal action is underway,” indicating further investigation is in progress.
