Zero claims filed on day one of Bihar voter list revision, says Election Commission

New Delhi, Aug 2: In a surprising development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that not a single claim or objection was submitted by any political party in the first 24 hours of the voter list revision process in Bihar, which began on August 1.

According to the ECI’s statement released on Saturday, from 3 p.m. on August 1 to 3 p.m. on August 2, all political parties combined filed zero entries to either add new voters or remove ineligible ones from the draft electoral roll.

To facilitate public participation, special camps have been operationalised in Block-cum-Circle Offices and Urban Local Body Municipal Offices across Bihar. These camps will remain open daily, including weekends, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., until September 1, 2025.

On the campaign’s opening day, 3,223 young electors—those turning 18 between July 1 and October 1, 2025—submitted their registration forms along with required declarations, as part of the Chief Electoral Officer's youth-focused drive.

The poll panel has urged all voters to submit updated photographs to their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) by September 1, as the updated voter ID cards will feature these new images.

To assist political parties in identifying discrepancies, the ECI has also provided a list of voters whose names were present in the June 24 electoral roll but are missing from the August 1 draft.

Additionally, 1.60 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs)—nominated by district heads of 12 political parties—have been deployed and are actively involved in the ground-level verification process.

The draft electoral rolls have been published for all 90,712 polling booths across 243 Assembly Constituencies, with each party receiving their respective copies through all 38 District Election Officers (DEOs) in Bihar.

With the special intensive revision now underway, the ECI continues to encourage political parties and citizens alike to engage proactively to ensure a clean, inclusive, and updated voter roll ahead of upcoming elections.
