Udupi, Aug 2: Adarsha Hospital Udupi, Sri Adarsha College of Nursing in association with Inner Wheel Club, Udupi organised World Breastfeeding week -2025 at Adarsha Hospital Udupi on Saturday, August 2.
Dr G S Chandrashekar, medical director Adarsha Hospital Udupi inaugurated the programme. In his address highlighting the importance of breastfeeding for a baby, Dr G S Chandrashekar said "Breastfeeding is very important for the upbringing of a healthy child. The lack of breastfeeding will result in various complications on the health of the baby. It will be a reason for developing obesity, PCOD and other implications. Many times mothers for various reasons step back from breastfeeding which is not an ideal move. Adarsha Hospital always gives importance for educating the patients in various health related topics. Masses do not take care of the health very much. We ignore health. Last one week many competitions were held for the students with the aim of creating awareness about the importance of breastfeeding. These programmes give impact on society. Working women in an act of balancing work and family life often find it difficult to breastfeed the baby. Childhood obesity is 25% at present. This will result in diabetes, cholesterol, PCOD and other ailments. With a aim of educating the public we are organizing such programmes".






























Shalini Raghavendra, president of Inner Wheel club Udupi on the occasion said, "Dakshina Kannada district has the breast milk bank which has been very much helpful for the public in times of need. The breastfeeding week was first started in 1992 by WHO, UNICEF, WABA. Breastfeeding is the first and best food given for the baby. This will help in increasing the immunity in children and helps in healthy growth".
A special talk about the importance of breastfeeding was delivered by Dr Ranjitha Nayak, obstetrician and gynaecologist at Adarsha hospital and Dr Guruprasad Shetty, paediatrician.
Prizes were distributed to the student winners of poster making competition held as part of the breast-feeding week.
On the occasion Vimala Chandrashekar, CEO Adarsha Hospital; Dr Damayanthi, obstetrician and gynaecologist Adarsha hospital; were present.
Amitha, lecturer of Adarsha Nursing College welcomed the gathering. Anushree Acharya, dietician compered the programme. Nursing superintendent Nagaveni proposed the vote of thanks.
