Dr Anil Melwyn Rego conferred PhD in mechanical engineering sciences by VTU

Bengaluru, Jul 31: Dr Anil Melwyn Rego has been awarded the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in mechanical engineering sciences by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, during its 25th Annual Convocation held on July 4.

His research work, titled “A study of the implementation of Design for Lean Six Sigma (DFLSS) Strategy for Product Development,” was carried out under the guidance of Dr Shreeranga Bhat, professor, department of mechanical engineering, St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru, and Dr Gijo E V, professor, SQC & OR Unit, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Bengaluru.

Dr Rego’s study emphasizes the relevance of the DFLSS strategy in industries facing intense market competition and demanding high-performance product output. His work advocates the implementation of this approach to boost product quality, minimize waste, and reduce development time, promoting excellence in manufacturing practices.

A certified Six Sigma Black Belt holder from ISI Bengaluru, Dr Rego brings deep expertise in process optimization and quality management. He currently serves as an assistant professor in the department of mechanical engineering at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Kengeri Campus, Bengaluru.

Hailing from Kallakatta, Vittal in Bantwal taluk, Dr Rego is the son of Irine Rego and Edward Rego, fondly known as “Perdha Porbulu” in the Vitla region. A familiar and beloved figure, Rego has served the local community by delivering milk for over six decades. Deeply respected for his humility and service, he remains an inspiration to many. Dr Rego belongs to a well-regarded family of agriculturists, grounded in values of dedication, simplicity, and integrity.
