Kasargod, Jul 30: In a deeply disturbing case, police from Hosadurga station have arrested the biological father of a minor girl who recently gave birth, following confirmation of his involvement.
The accused is the father of a 15-year-old Class 10 student and originally hails from Karnataka. He was working as a daily wage labourer while residing in a rented quarters at Kanhangad in Kasargod district along with his wife and five children.
Neither the girl’s mother nor the school authorities were aware of the sexual abuse or the pregnancy. A few days ago, the girl delivered a baby girl at home and suffered heavy bleeding, following which she was admitted to a private hospital. The hospital authorities alerted the police, who then registered a POCSO case and initiated a DNA test on the newborn.
Despite being questioned, the girl reportedly did not disclose the identity of the perpetrator. However, the police, acting on suspicion, proceeded to collect a DNA sample from the father, which reportedly revealed his involvement.
Hosadurga police said the accused has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. He will also undergo further DNA testing to support the investigation.
