Shooting at Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort leaves several injured, suspect in custody

Reno, Jul 28: A shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno early Monday morning left several people injured and led to an officer-involved confrontation, with one suspect now in custody.

Reno Police responded to reports of an active shooter around 7:25 am local time in the valet area of the popular casino-resort. Officers quickly arrived at the scene, confronted the suspect, and exchanged gunfire before detaining him. The adult male suspect was later transported to a local hospital. His current condition remains unknown.

Though authorities have not confirmed the exact number of victims, several people sustained gunshot wounds, with some reportedly arriving at hospitals independently. Emergency personnel, including REMSA paramedics, fire crews, and resort staff, provided immediate assistance.

Police confirmed that the incident involved an officer-involved shooting. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office noted one of their officers was involved during the confrontation.

City council member Devon Reese expressed grief over the incident, stating, “My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation.” He also mentioned the tragic loss of lives, though no official fatalities have been announced.

The Sparks Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada State Police, and the Reno Fire Department. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as inquiries continue.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
