Massive drug factory busted in Rajasthan; Rs 100 crore MD production foiled

Jaipur, Jul 23: In a significant blow to the narcotics trade, Barmer Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Jodhpur have jointly dismantled a large-scale illegal MD drug manufacturing unit in Dholakia village, Sedwa. This coordinated effort was part of the special anti-narcotics campaign Operation Bhaukaal.

The crackdown led to the discovery of a clandestine laboratory containing enough raw materials to manufacture MD drugs worth an estimated Rs 100 crore. The operation also resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a wide range of chemical substances and equipment used in synthetic drug production.

Barmer SP Narendra Singh Meena said the team confiscated 39.25 kg of MD/NDPS liquid, 290.84 kg of chemical solvents and reagents (including chloroform, bromine, toluene, hydrochloric acid, and more), 5.33 kg of white powder, two drug recipe sheets, an electric fork, and a generator. The market value of the seized materials alone is pegged at Rs 40 lakh.

Acting on specific intelligence, teams led by Chohtan Circle Officer Jeevanlal and Sedwa SHO Deep Singh raided a farm shed owned by Mangilal Bishnoi, where the factory was covertly operating. As law enforcement moved in, three suspects attempted to flee. Two were nabbed on the spot—Mangilal Bishnoi (21), a local resident, and Birju Jayendra Shukla (45) from Mumbai. The third, identified as Ganpat Singh Rawana Rajput, evaded arrest.

Initial interrogation and forensic leads revealed the lab was operated by a larger group, including Ramesh alias Anil Bishnoi, Kamlesh alias Kartik Bishnoi, Kamlesh Godara, and Ganpat Singh Rawana. Mangilal had reportedly leased the property for ?10 lakh, half of which was paid upfront.

The equipment was traced to Narmada Glass Company, while the chemicals were sourced from Rohan Company, Mumbai. A total of 10 individuals have been implicated so far, many of whom have extensive criminal records. The main accused, already facing 17 serious charges—including kidnapping, attempted murder, and drug trafficking—also carries a bounty of Rs 1 lakh and is listed among the top-10 most-wanted criminals in the region.

Authorities have also identified other individuals linked to the operation, including Shiva Bhai from Odisha (a technical expert in MD formulation), Narmata Madam from Thane (equipment supplier), and Machhindra Bhosale from Mahad Akola (chemical procurement).

Officials believe this bust has uncovered a deeply rooted interstate drug syndicate. Investigations are ongoing to track down the absconding members and fully dismantle the network.
