Imphal, Jul 22: Security forces in Manipur have arrested eight militants linked to different insurgent groups and recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and documents in intensified operations over the past 24 hours, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to police sources, the arrested individuals are affiliated with the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) and the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). The arrests were made in Tengnoupal and Imphal East districts, including three KCP operatives picked up near the India-Myanmar border in the hilly terrain of Tengnoupal.

Items seized during the operation include a car, Indian and Nepalese currencies, mobile phones, SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, and PAN cards.

Separately, in a significant arms recovery, security forces seized a cache of weapons from Kangpokpi district, particularly from Tingkai Khullen, Maohing, and Changoubung villages. The haul included:

• One INSAS rifle with magazine
• One .303 rifle
• One lathode
• One .32 pistol with magazine
• Four bolt-action rifles
• One M16 rifle
• One MA1 assault rifle
• One sniper rifle
• One .32 bore pistol
• Seven single-barrel rifles
• Four hand grenades

Police said the search and area domination operations continue across vulnerable zones in both the Imphal valley and hilly districts to maintain control and deter militant movement.

Amid these operations, Manipur Police issued a fresh advisory warning the public against spreading rumours and fake content on social media. Authorities urged citizens to verify the authenticity of videos, audio clips, and other materials through the Central Control Room.

“There are chances that many fake posts are circulating online. Uploading or forwarding such misinformation will invite legal action,” the police said in a statement.

Police have also reiterated their appeal to the public to voluntarily return looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to local police stations or the nearest security forces.
