Udupi, Jul 22: St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, celebrated Language Week from July 15 to 18.
The valedictory ceremony of the Language Week celebration was held with great enthusiasm on July 18 at St Mary’s Auditorium. The event show-cased the linguistic diversity of India and aimed to inspire, in students an appreciation for different languages and cultures.
The programme began with the arrival of the dignitaries. The dignitaries were warmly escorted by the head boy and head girl. The master of ceremony, Misha Sayed, extended a heartfelt welcome to the principal and the president of the function Fr Vijay Joyson D’Souza, the chief guest Poornima and the vice principal Rita Quadras, setting the tone for an engaging and vibrant celebration.

















The cultural programme commenced with a delightful action song in Hindi performed by the enthusiastic students of grade 1, which captivated the audience with its energy and charm. This was followed by a soulful recitation of a Jnanpada Geethe in Kannada by the talented students of grade 5 and 6, paying tribute to the richness of regional literature.
Adding to the celebration of multilingualism, students of grade 9 presented an English skit, which was not only entertaining but also thought-provoking, highlighting the power of language in communication and connection.
The highlight of the event was the address by the chief guest Poornima, who emphasized the importance of language in shaping identity, thought, and culture. The president of the function Fr Vijay D’Souza also addressed the gathering, appreciating the efforts of students and teachers and encouraging continued enthusiasm for language learning and expression. The Language Week was a wonderful platform for students to express themselves and celebrate the linguistic heritage of our country.
The winners of the various competitions held during the language week were announced.
The celebration concluded on a patriotic note with the National Anthem, marking the end of a successful and enriching event. The whole event was planned and executed by the Language teachers of the school under the guidance of vice principal Rita Quadras.
