New York, Jul 20: In a chilling act of domestic violence that has left an entire neighborhood shaken, a 54-year-old man from Queens reportedly stabbed his wife and 2-year-old daughter to death before attempting to take his own life.

The horrifying incident unfolded inside a home in Ridgewood, Queens, where police say the man used a kitchen knife to launch the brutal attack. His 41-year-old wife and young daughter were both stabbed multiple times in the neck and chest, according to officials from the New York Police Department (NYPD).

The woman was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The toddler, critically wounded, succumbed to her injuries at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center later the same evening.

The accused then turned the knife on himself, stabbing his chest in an apparent suicide attempt. He is currently hospitalized in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital under police watch. Authorities have recovered the weapon used in the crime from the scene.

The quiet Ridgewood neighbourhood has been left reeling in the aftermath of the tragedy. Neighbours expressed disbelief and sorrow, describing the family as seemingly normal. One resident told the New York Post, “It’s shocking, you know, that it happens right next door to you. I guess, you don’t know who your neighbours are.”

Another neighbour, who lives directly beside the family’s home, recalled hearing the man singing in the shower earlier in the day. “You don’t hear the fights, you don’t hear nothing,” they added, calling the silence before the horror “eerie.”
