New York, Jul 18: In a disturbing accident, a 61-year-old man was critically injured after being sucked into an MRI machine at a medical facility in Westbury, New York. According to the Nassau County Police Department, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm on Wednesday (Jul 16) at Nassau Open MRI, after the man allegedly entered the restricted area without authorization while wearing a heavy metal chain.

Authorities said the man entered the active MRI suite while the machine was running, causing the powerful magnet to pull him in with great force. He reportedly suffered a medical emergency on impact and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Investigators are probing how he accessed the scanning room during an active procedure.

MRI machines generate intense magnetic fields, requiring patients to remove all metal objects prior to entry. Failure to follow these safety protocols can lead to life-threatening injuries.
