Washington, Jul 15: US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will send weapons to Ukraine through NATO, with European allies footing the bill. Simultaneously, he issued a stern warning to Russia, threatening heavy economic penalties if a ceasefire is not achieved within 50 days.
Speaking from the Oval Office during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said an agreement had been finalized with NATO partners to deliver weapons to Ukraine. “We’ll send them a lot of weapons of all kinds,” Trump stated. “They’re going to be paying for them 100 per cent.”
He added that the U.S. would manufacture the weapons, and deliveries to Ukraine’s battle zones would begin “immediately.”

Trump also issued a sharp warning to Russia, stating that if no peace deal is reached within 50 days, he would impose “very severe tariffs”, including “secondary tariffs” reportedly as high as 100 per cent. Later clarification by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick indicated that Trump’s “secondary tariffs” referred to economic sanctions rather than traditional import tariffs.
In response to reporters’ questions after the meeting, Trump confirmed that the NATO arms agreement was “fully approved.” He also revealed that Patriot missile systems—some sourced from European nations—will be delivered to Ukraine “within days.”
The remarks mark a significant escalation in rhetoric and policy positioning from Trump, signaling both a strong stance against Russia and a shift toward greater NATO responsibility in financing Ukraine’s defense.
