Washington, Jul 13: An autopsy technician from Colorado, USA, has issued a cautionary message, especially for the elderly, to avoid eating steak due to the choking hazard it presents. Speaking from her experience in the morgue, Dolly, who conducts both private and forensic autopsies, said she has seen several deaths caused by elderly individuals choking on improperly chewed meat.
"You can't chew anymore. You're going to choke and die, and then you end up in the morgue. And I have to retrieve it from your oesophagus. It is disgusting," she told Newsweek.
Dolly also advised against getting into physical confrontations, citing real-life cases where people taunted others with phrases like "What are you gonna do? Stab me?" or "Shoot me?" — only for those threats to tragically come true.
Over the years, she has conducted autopsies in numerous tragic and unusual cases — including skydiving accidents, steamroller incidents, plane crashes, mining disasters, and even decapitations. Her experience has led her to identify certain everyday actions that can be fatal if not approached cautiously.
Some of her key safety tips include:
• Avoiding provocative language during arguments
• Skipping steak in old age due to the risk of choking
• Not leaning into running washing machines
• Never relying on cheap car jacks
• Avoiding loose clothing near machinery
• Always wearing proper gear while riding motorcycles
Dolly said her goal is to help people avoid preventable deaths by raising awareness. She now travels across the country to assist with complex homicide and coronial cases and frequently shares her insights on social media to help normalise discussions around death, which she says is still a taboo subject in Western culture.
"I've basically seen it all, but then something new pops up and surprises me. It's so fragile but so resilient... It’s honestly mind-blowing," she said.
