Veteran actor Kota Srinivasa Rao passes away at 83

Hyderabad, Jul 13: Renowned Telugu film actor and former BJP MLA Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away in the early hours of Monday at his residence in Filmnagar, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. He was 83. The veteran actor had been battling a prolonged illness and died just two days after celebrating his birthday.

Born in Kankipadu, Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Kota made his cinematic debut with Pranam Khareedhu in 1978. In a remarkable career that spanned over four decades, he featured in more than 750 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi languages. Known for his powerful portrayals, especially in villainous and character roles, Kota left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

His performances in films such as Aha Naa Pellanta!, Pratigatana, Khaidi Number 786, Shiva, and Yamaleela earned him immense popularity and critical acclaim. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution to the arts, along with nine prestigious Nandi Awards.

Apart from his cinematic achievements, Kota also served as a BJP MLA representing Vijayawada East from 1999 to 2004.

The Telugu film fraternity and fans across the country are mourning the demise of the legendary actor, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from all corners.
