New Delhi, Jul 12: A four-storey building collapsed in the Welcome area of Northeast Delhi on Saturday morning, triggering panic and a massive rescue operation. Several people are feared trapped under the debris.

The incident occurred around 7 am, prompting the swift response of fire and police teams. Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg confirmed the collapse took place in Gali No. 5, Janta Colony near Idgah road in Seelampur.

“We received a call about the collapse at 7 am. Multiple teams, including seven fire tenders, are on the job. Rescue operations are underway,” a senior police official said.

So far, four people have been rescued from the rubble, while at least three others are still believed to be trapped.

Locals were among the first to respond, with many morning walkers rushing in to help clear debris and pull out those trapped before rescue teams arrived.

“Around 7 am, I heard a loud sound and saw a huge cloud of dust. When I came outside, I saw that our neighbour’s house had collapsed,” said Asma, a local resident. “A family of 10 lived there, and three have been rescued so far.”

Videos shared by news agency ANI show local residents actively assisting in rescue efforts, highlighting the community's quick response.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown at this stage. Authorities are continuing efforts to locate and rescue those still trapped.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in April, when a four-storey building in Mustafabad collapsed, killing four and injuring several others.
