Mumbai, Jul 7: She may not be a household name yet, but 20-year-old Sara Arjun, who has been a familiar face on Indian television and in films since childhood, is all set to make her big-league debut as Ranveer Singh’s leading lady in the upcoming espionage thriller ‘Dhurandhar’.
The film’s first look dropped on June 6, coinciding with Ranveer Singh’s 40th birthday, instantly sparking social media buzz about the new heroine in this high-stakes spy drama, which is reportedly based on real events.
Daughter of actor Jai Arjun, known for his roles in Secret Superstar, Thalaivii, and Love Hostel, Sara has grown up in the world of cinema. She began her career with commercials, including one for McDonald’s, before stepping into films.
Her breakout role came in 2011 as a six-year-old in AL Vijay’s Tamil drama Deiva Thirumagal opposite Vikram. She went on to feature in Saivam, its Telugu remake Dagudumootha Dandakor, and made her mark in Hindi films like Ek Thi Daayan, Jai Ho, and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga as younger Sonam Kapoor.
Sara grabbed headlines again recently for portraying young Nandini, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan (2022–23). By 2023, she had become India’s highest-paid child actor, with earnings touching Rs 10 cr.
Her recent work includes the 2024 teen musical Magic, the Malayalam film Ann Maria Kalippilaanu, and Saand Ki Aankh (2019).
In ‘Dhurandhar’, Sara is the lone female presence in a power-packed cast featuring Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Akshaye Khanna. While the scope of her role is still under wraps, her casting signals a major turning point in her career.
Directed, written, and co-produced by Aditya Dhar (Uri: The Surgical Strike), and presented by Jio Studios in association with B62 Studios, the film is slated for theatrical release on December 5, 2025.
