Mumbai, Jul 7: Anurag Basu’s much-anticipated romantic drama Metro In Dino, which hit theatres on July 4, has crossed the Rs 15 cr milestone, thanks to a solid weekend push. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 7.25 cr on its third day (Saturday), taking its total domestic box office collection to Rs 16.75 crore.
While the film opened modestly at Rs 3.5 cr on Day 1, strong urban turnout helped boost numbers over the weekend. On Sunday, the Hindi occupancy rate stood at 39.75%, with the highest footfalls recorded during evening shows (57.14%), followed by afternoon screenings (46.62%).
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh highlighted the film’s 68.15% growth on Saturday, calling Sunday’s performance “crucial” to bridge the initial shortfall. However, he also warned of stiff competition ahead.
“Metro In Dino continues to perform best in urban centres, its core target audience,” Adarsh noted. “But the response from mass circuits remains below par, and the entry of Hollywood biggies like Jurassic World Rebirth and F1: The Movie could impact its run in metros.”
Featuring an ensemble cast including Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher and Ali Fazal, Metro In Dino is a spiritual sequel to Basu’s 2007 hit Life in a… Metro. The film, jointly produced by T-Series and Anurag Kashyap Films, delves into the complexities of modern love and relationships.
