Delhi, Jul 2: In a heartbreaking incident, a 19-year-old woman in Delhi attempted suicide by consuming acid after her partner, Rehan, whom she had been in a relationship with for seven years, refused to marry her despite multiple assurances. The police reported that Rehan, believed to be in his late 20s, misled the woman by faking his identity and engaging in physical relations under the pretext of marriage.
The woman’s father has alleged that Rehan coerced his daughter into undergoing two abortions and blackmailed her with threats to leak videos. Following the refusal to marry, the young woman, left in despair, drank acid on June 18 when no one was home. She is currently in critical condition at Safdarjung Hospital, with doctors expressing grave concerns about her survival.

Rehan has been arrested, and the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses deceitful practices related to marriage. Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goyal confirmed the arrest, while the woman's family continues to seek justice for her tragic plight.
