Mangaluru, Jul 2: With a symphony of voices and a celebration of cultures, Lourdes Central School observed Language Week 2025 with unbridled zest and zeal. Guided by the theme “Languages that weave the world”, the week was a vibrant confluence of linguistic heritage and student expression.

Under the leadership of principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira, and the stewardship of coordinators and mentors, the event became a living tapestry of words, creativity, and connection. The celebrations commenced with a spirited English-themed inaugural assembly by classes 9 and 10, mentored by Vidhya Joseph and Reema D’Souza. In a symbolic gesture, Fr Johnson L Sequeira, joined by Deepa D’Souza, academic coordinator and Shaila Pereira, English coordinator, unveiled a handcrafted poetry book created by Jaden Baptist of class X. The visually striking backdrop that framed the ceremony was conceptualized and designed by Riana, Anagha and Yashica of class X, capturing the spirit and elegance of the theme with finesse.

Each morning assembly unfolded as a tribute to a language—beginning with the powerful English assembly, followed by the Kannada assembly, rich with local pride, led by class 9B and guided by Rathnakara Acharya. The French assembly, mentored by Madhura Jain, sparkled with songs, humour, and insight. The Sanskrit assembly, under Meghana Kashyap, offered a profound glimpse into India’s classical legacy. The Konkani assembly, under Henry Mascarenhas’s mentorship, brought warmth and melody. Finally, the Hindi assembly concluded the week with flair, featuring advertisements, skits, and poetry that paid tribute to the timeless voice of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, coordinated by Seema Madtha and Padmashree Bhat.

In the classroom, expression took many forms. Across classes I to V, English enrichment activities such as poetic recitation and storytelling helped students explore diction, rhythm and imagination. Classes VI and VII performed in the mono-act challenge “Get into my shoes”, where they stepped into the lives of professionals through powerful first-person narratives. Class VIII impressed with elocution, tackling topics like reading, environment and technology. Meanwhile, classes IX and X showcased spontaneous brilliance in the extempore competition, articulating their thoughts with poise and spontaneity. These subject enrichment activities not only elevated language skills but also nurtured confidence, empathy and creativity in every participant.

Language Week 2025, celebrated from June 23 to 28, was more than a school event—it was a celebration of expression, identity, and imagination. With every word spoken and every language honored, the students truly brought “Expressions Alive”, weaving together thoughts and tongues into a rich, unforgettable experience.
