Shillong, Jul 1: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage across Meghalaya’s Eastern West Khasi Hills district, a 25-year-old man allegedly slit the throat of his girlfriend in full public view, right in front of her father.
The tragedy unfolded on Monday evening at the bustling market of Mairang Pyndengumiong village, where the victim, identified as Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew from Mawkhap village, had gone to sell farm produce with her father.

According to police, the accused approached the woman at the market and began arguing with her. Eyewitnesses said the altercation suddenly turned violent, and to the horror of onlookers, the man pulled out a knife and slit her throat.
The grievously injured woman was rushed to Mairang Civil Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
As the accused tried to flee the scene, enraged locals caught hold of him and handed him over to the police. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.
