Mangaluru, Jun 28: A disturbing case of sexual assault has come to light involving a 24-year-old man who allegedly raped a minor girl inside a car at Someshwara Beach, Ullal, just four days after connecting with her on Instagram. The accused, identified as Kelvin, a resident of Adyar Valachil and a painter by profession, has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to the complaint registered at Ullal police station, the incident took place on June 23. Kelvin had befriended the minor, who had recently completed her PUC and was awaiting admission into a nursing course, through Instagram. On the fourth day of their acquaintance, Kelvin arrived at her residence—under Ullal station limits—in a car and took her out under the pretext of meeting.

He first attempted to book a room at a lodge near Kuthar but was denied as the girl was identified as a minor. Undeterred, Kelvin allegedly drove to the Someshwara Beach area and committed the crime inside the car. He then dropped the girl back at her residence.

Neighbours reportedly noticed the girl being picked up and dropped off by the same car multiple times in the morning and evening. Later that night, when the girl complained of abdominal pain, a medical examination was conducted, revealing the assault.

A case has been registered at the Ullal police station, and Kelvin has been arrested and produced before court.
