Udupi, Jun 28: By providing grants for construction of Christian Development Corporation and strengthening the Christian community through proper planning and then implementing it, discussion on this is being held across the state is a good development,” said Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi diocese.

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo was delivering the introductory note at a consultation meeting organized by the Christian Development Corporation with leaders of various Christian congregations, held at Ave Maria Hall of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi.

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo said, “This time, the honourable chief minister has sanctioned an initial grant of Rs 80 crore to the development corporation, and it is intended to directly benefit the people through various schemes, especially the poor. The corporation has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing this sincerely. The community has the responsibility to plan systematically to achieve the objectives successfully,” he added.

Prashanth Jathanna, director of the corporation, said the CM Siddaramaiah government is one that fulfils its promises, and as assured before elections, has established the Christian Development Corporation. Work is underway to draft people-oriented schemes specifically for the Christian community, and suggestions are being gathered from the community to design these schemes.

Prashanth Jathanna added that he has been given responsibility over 12 districts, and he is touring these regions to collect suggestions. The Corporation meeting will be held in Bengaluru on July 3, where these suggestions will be presented.

District Minority Corporation officer Poornima Churi explained the schemes available for the community.

Representatives from various Christian congregations gave constructive suggestions for effective implementation of these schemes.

Fr Denis D’Sa, public relations officer of Udupi diocese, welcomed the gathering. Fr Leo Praveen D’Souza, assistant parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, compered the programme and delivered the vote of thanks.

The meeting was attended by Fr Ivan Soans of the CSI Church, Fr Santosh of UBMC Church, Fr Noel of Syrian Orthodox Church, Ronald D’Almeida president of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, and Sylvia Suares, president of Sugamya Mahila Okkoota.
