Media Release

Ukkinadka, Jun 28: Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its newly built Mother Mary Grotto, coinciding with the feast day of Sacred Heart of Jesus, the patron of the church.

The ceremony was blessed by Fr Sunil Miranda, parish priest of Ukkinadka. Fr Claudy Vas (parish priest of Bovikhana Church) performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, while Fr Stany Pereira (parish priest of Bela Church and dean of Kasargod Deanery) unveiled the curtain.

Other dignitaries present included Fr Wilson Lobo, Fr Nelson Almeida (parish priest of Maniyampare), Norbertine fathers Fr Jose, Fr Albert, Adarsh, and Sr Cecena. The event began with the solemn inauguration and blessing of the Mother Mary Grotto, built in honor of the jubilee year and the church’s 86th anniversary.

This was followed by a holy Eucharist, celebrated by Fr Wilson Lobo as the main celebrant. The congregation came together in prayer and gratitude. A cultural programme by children and youth added vibrancy to the celebration, while six couples celebrating their silver jubilee were felicitated during the event. Sandhya D’Souza served as the master of ceremonies.

The feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus was observed with great devotion, concluding with a community dinner that fostered fellowship and joy. The grotto’s construction was made possible through the generosity of donors, to whom the parish expressed heartfelt gratitude.

The event was well-coordinated under the leadership of parish priest Fr Sunil Miranda, vice president Joel Montiero, secretary Sarini Crasta, and 21 committee animator Wilfred D’Souza. The celebration was a beautiful blend of faith, gratitude, and community spirit.
