Vikarabad, Jun 27: A government school science teacher in Telangana’s Vikarabad district has been booked under the Cow Slaughter Act after allegedly bringing an animal brain to class to teach anatomy to Class 10 students, police said on Friday.

The incident, which took place on June 24, sparked controversy after students claimed the teacher told them the brain was from a cow. Police, however, said the species is yet to be confirmed.

The school’s Headmaster lodged a formal complaint, leading to the filing of the case. Meanwhile, protests were held by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and other local groups, who accused the teacher of hurting religious sentiments and demanded strict action.

Officials from the education department visited the school, and the teacher has been suspended pending a detailed inquiry. “The Mandal Education Officer has begun a probe and a preliminary report was submitted, based on which the suspension order was issued,” a department official confirmed.
