Puttur, Jun 26: A lorry transporting electrical transformers from Bengaluru to Mangaluru overturned on the side of the highway near Kodiyakallu in Shiradi village, late on Tuesday night, causing panic among commuters and damaging the vehicle severely.

According to sources, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve along the highway stretch at Kodyakallu, leading to the accident. The impact was significant enough to leave the lorry completely damaged, but miraculously, the driver escaped with only minor injuries.

The Uppinangady police rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and conducted a preliminary investigation. Traffic movement was briefly disrupted but was soon restored after efforts were made to clear the site.

Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the mishap, though it is suspected that speeding or brake failure may have contributed to the accident.

Locals have once again raised concerns over the safety of heavy vehicles plying along the Shiradi Ghat stretch, urging for more stringent checks and improved road safety measures.
