Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 25: The grade 5 students of St Theresa’s School, Bendur brought the theme “One earth, one chance” to life through a vibrant and meaningful assembly on Wednesday, June 25 held in the school auditorium. The celebration aimed to instil in young minds a sense of responsibility towards protecting and preserving the planet.

The programme began with a solemn prayer service that set a reflective and reverent tone. A warm welcome followed, during which the dignitaries—Dr Stephen D’Souza, a renowned environmentalist and professor, Sr Lourdes, the principal, and Sr Vidya, the vice principal—were presented with bouquets and saplings, symbolizing growth, gratitude, and a commitment to a greener future.

The assembly was packed with creativity and awareness-building presentations. A graceful welcome dance enthralled the audience, followed by a well-prepared speech by a student highlighting the urgent need to care for the Earth and the power of small actions in making a big difference.

A highlight of the morning was a street-play-style skit performed by the students of grade 5, delivering strong messages on reducing plastic usage, conserving water, and nurturing nature. The skit creatively combined humour and emotion to drive home the theme’s relevance. This was followed by a lively group song titled “Earth is our home,” and a visually impactful dance performance that emphasized the beauty and fragility of nature.

In his address, Dr Stephen D’Souza commended the students for their energy and imagination. He shared an inspiring story and urged the children to be bold leaders and responsible caretakers of the environment, drawing inspiration from the lion as a symbol of courage and leadership. Sr Lourdes, in her message, gently reminded the students that maintaining cleanliness in their own classrooms is the first step towards a cleaner and healthier planet.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the singing of the national anthem. The assembly was not merely a celebration, but a heartfelt call to action that planted the seeds of environmental consciousness and commitment in the hearts of every student present.
